Coughing spells...did you have this...what is it?

my husband and i have this cough.He has had it for about 2 weeks now.My about a week.Its like a tickle and a dry cough.He went to the doctor and he said it was resp. thing.Well my aunt had it and had to g onto an antibiotic!In the morning and right before i go to bed its worse,than of course when i lay down alllll the mucus finally starts to come up.Iam not going to the doctors because they said to my hubby nothing we can do.Gave cough meds thats all.Does it sound like bronchitis?
