Should I take the Chemistry AP Exam?

I'm a sopre taking Honors Chemistry (we don't have APs in our school). I have an A, and I've already signed up for the Chemistry SAT Subject Test. I'm not sure if I should take the AP exam, though. My teacher said it's really meant for a "second year course". I plan on being pre-med in college, but I hope not taking the AP exam wouldn't deter a college from accepting me. Any advice?
